On Sunday, Liverpool officially lost the Premier League to Manchester City, as they defended their reign of being English champions.

Liverpool will be upset in defeat, after having the lead at Christmas time and having a chance on the last day of the season to lift the Premier League trophy in front of the Anfield faithful for the first time in 29 years. However, they are not sounding discouraged at all.

Left-back Andy Robertson was hopeful of years to come in his post-match interview with Liverpool FC during the lap of honor,

"“The good thing is that City know we’re here now and we’re not going anywhere. This squad will stay together and we need to put everything into next season”"

To have that much confidence and swagger after a loss like that is brilliant, and Liverpool fans will be buzzing at the thought of another race next season with Pep Guardiola’s side. Towards the end of Sunday’s match when the Kopites knew Man City had the title in hand, Anfield continued to grow louder and louder.

There were no whistles. There were no boos, jeers, or sad faces. Instead, there was hope and celebration. Celebration of two golden boot winners, the golden glove winner, the best Premier League player, and a record-setting season for a historic club in Liverpool.

It was not only a sendoff for Liverpool’s Champions League final in Madrid, but it was also a sendoff for next season. Man City will not even have time to celebrate because Liverpool are that close to their heels, nipping and biting for anything they can get. One point is all that separated the two sides this year, and you better believe Jurgen Klopp will make up that difference.

Liverpool were millimeters away on multiple occasions from still having a lead on City, but football is a game of inches and sometimes it is just not meant to be. What it does mean though, is that Liverpool are extraordinarily close to doing something special.

You can tell this team is like a big family, their children play together, and wives mingle off the pitch. Liverpool are becoming a family club once again, and nobody wants to leave. The atmosphere around the ground is electric, and there is a belief that even if Liverpool fail to win a trophy this year, something is coming.

Every Liverpool fan and supporter is proud of this club, including myself. To Pep Guardiola, Sheikh Mansour, Sergio Aguero, and the rest of Manchester City; we are here. We are not leaving. We will come back better than ever next year.
