Liverpool loss could force Barcelona to sign Antoine Griezmann
By Kian Long
Antoine Griezmann is a hot topic of discussion right now, especially among the Barcelona officials…
Barcelona suffered a fatal loss to Liverpool, who completed their comeback to turn around the three-goal deficit. It looked certain that Barcelona would coast through to the final but Liverpool’s attack was just too good at Anfield and Lionel Messi and company was not on form to match.
According to Marca, this Champions League farewell could cause Barcelona to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid. It was recently announced that the Frenchman would not be an Atleti player next season, which resulted in speculation about his future. There were, obviously, calls for Manchester United to sign him, but with this news, he could remain in Spain.

Griezmann pledges a lot of loyalty to Atletico Madrid, as was demonstrated when he refused to leave during the time of their transfer ban. That said, it will be interesting to see whether the Frenchman opts for a move to Barcelona.
Let’s be honest, nobody would be able to blame Griezmann if he does choose to sign for Barcelona. Every player’s dream is to play at the Camp Nou, even after lifting the ultimate prize of the World Cup.
Griezmann is one of the best players in the world, however, he is often stripped of this title since he has not won any major silverware at club level besides the Europa League. This is because Atletico Madrid often plays third fiddle behind the two La Liga big boys. That said, a move to Barca would certainly benefit him.
However, the move would also benefit Barca, obviously. Griezmann brings a new approach to the striker role, one which could succeed Luis Suarez and add a new dynamic to Barcelona’s play. He is a false-nine type striker, one which likes to bring out the best in his attackers. This would certainly benefit Lionel Messi, although he is an individual player in his own right.
Do you think Antoine Griezmann will sign for Barcelona this summer?
