The Manchester United forward has his potential growth in mind…

Manchester United suffered a seriously disappointing season. Starting with Jose Mourinho at the helm, the Red Devils underachieved and it was shown by his departure. When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge as manager, things looked really positive, hence he was given the permanent role just a few weeks into his interim role. However, even he has shown frailties towards the end of the season.

Another man who had a mixed season is Marcus Rashford. The England international, fresh off the back of a World Cup run, looked to emulate his first season with Manchester United. He was excellent in some games and even went on a few good runs of form, however, his inconsistency is what let him down.

More from Manchester United

Fans grew tired of Rashford, particularly his free-kick taking. He would always try to make the spectacular happen, but it would never work. This is a common theme of young players but it cannot be excused at a club the size of United. Rashford can do well, that’s why his shortcomings this season have been frustrating to watch.

Now, according to The Sun, Rashford has his future in mind. They have reported that the forward wants to be assured of the direction Manchester United is heading under Solskjaer before he commits to signing a new deal. In case you didn’t know, Rashford’s deal runs out next summer.

Rashford is just one of the many Manchester United stars running down his contract. David de Gea and Paul Pogba are the most notable culprits, but it just goes to show how messy things are behind the scenes at Old Trafford. The signing of Alexis Sanchez last season on extortionate wages didn’t help the matter either.

Marcus Rashford has a lot of expectation to live up to. Not only does he have the weight of Manchester United on his shoulders, but also a nation in England. This could either make or break him, but one thing’s for sure, he needs to calm down on the ball sometimes.
