Leaving Real Madrid would be Gareth Bale’s least cowardly choice

Real Madrid fans are getting frustrated…

There is no reason for Gareth Bale to be at Real Madrid anymore. The Welshman is not having a good time and it’s beginning to look like he’s using the Santiago Bernabeu as an easy wage packet. This is a cowardly move from Bale, especilly considering he was once deemed to be one of the best players in the world.

Last season, Bale showed life at the end of the season. Coming from the bench against Liverpool, he scored two goals in quick succession, including one of the best Champions League final goals to ever take place. Many thought that this would set him up for a good season, particularly when Zinedine Zidane announced his departure just before the World Cup. Since Wales did not qualify, Bale had plenty of time to prepare for the new season.

However, it did not show through. Under Julen Lopetegui, Los Blancos could not find a rhythm. Things did look better when Santiago Solari took charge, although Bale was not one of the recipients of his good man management. In fact, I would even say that this season was even worse than Bale’s last season, and that’s saying something.

Marca ran a poll in which 330,000 Real Madrid fans voted on their players’ performances this season. Of the participants, an astonishing 92% of fans gave Bale a “fail” for his shortcomings. I mean, Bale does rhyme with fail, but what is even more surprising to me is that 8% of people thought he did not fail this season. What were they watching?!

There are clubs out there that would still be interested in signing Bale. For example, Zidane recently offered the Welshman back to his former club Tottenham on loan, in which the Spanish club would pay half of his wages. That said, there is no reason for Bale to be a Real Madrid player next season. If he has any concern of his future, or care at all, then he would seek a move away and not worry about the inevitable wage drop.
