Manchester United could be the best landing spot for Gareth Bale
By Quinn Allen
Bale is clearly unwanted at Real Madrid but given his hefty contract, it’s been tough for the club to find a new destination for the Welshman but United could be the best option for him on a free transfer.
Manchester United are very familiar with having the highest paid player on their squad do relatively nothing in Alexis Sanchez, so trying to make a move for a player like Gareth Bale could be concerning for Man United. They have tried to sign the Welshman in past summers but had no luck as he hasn’t shown any interest to move back to England.
Bale is now at a point where he doesn’t have much choice because he has totally fallen out of favor in Madrid. He’s currently getting paid 15.5 million euros a year which adds up to 300,000 euros a week, so he would more likely than not become the highest paid player on any club he would move to. The issue is that no club is willing to pay this much for Bale, but Madrid has discussed the possibility of a free transfer for the former Tottenham star.

He turns 30 in July, so his best days are behind him. But he’s also accomplished all there is in Spain, winning four Champions League titles and scoring two crucial goals in their UCL final win last year against Liverpool. Despite his brilliance at times, Bale has dealt with a lot of injuries and fitness issues at the Bernabeu. He’s started just 79 of a possible 151 La Liga matches since coming over to Spain from Tottenham on a 100 million euros transfer fee in 2013.
It’s safe to say his time is up with Real Madrid, But finding him a new club is a big issue. However, if Madrid can work out a free transfer, Manchester United would be a good fit for him because they currently need some more quality up front.
Why United is a good fit for Bale
Bale was impressive in his Tottenham days, bagging 42 goals in 146 appearances across six seasons with the Spurs. He enjoyed a lot of success in England and it seems like the most logical place for him to play next season.
United really struggled to end this year’s campaign and their lack of firepower up front was very evident. Marcus Rashford was good at times this year, but he isn’t close to consistent enough and he’s still very young. Romelu Lukaku had one spell of amazing form for about five matches, including a breathtaking performance in UCL play against PSG, but other than that, he was practically non-existent. It looks like Lukaku is probably on his way out of Old Trafford and there have been talks that Inter Milan are trying to sign the Belgian.
A top two of Bale and Rashford could do very well together. Both are fast and dynamic players who have the ability to bag goals consistently. The key for Bale is to stay healthy and get in top shape. That’s been an issue for him in past years but when he is in his best form, the 29-year old is still a very quality player.
Like I mentioned above, United could be very wary about signing Bale after seeing the struggles of Alexis Sanchez, who gets paid even more than Bale does at Real Madrid. The Chilean is currently earning 400,000 euros a week. But the Red Devils are keen to offload the contracts of both Lukaku and Sanchez, so if they can, Gareth Bale wouldn’t be an awful option for them. It would definitely be taking a chance, but it could also work out very well for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side if Bale can reach his full potential once again with a new team.
