After turning down Liverpool’s invitation, Loris Karius will not be watching the Champions League final in Madrid.

According to the Daily Mail, Loris Karius was offered the chance to go to the final where he is still on loan with the club but he will not be attending,

"Liverpool outcast Loris Karius has turned down the chance to attend Saturday’s Champions League final against Tottenham for fear he could become a distraction."

Liverpool coaches and staffers reportedly respected and understood why Karius would not want to make the trip. If anything, he is doing it for the benefit of the team, and so the focus is on them and not on last year’s meltdown in the final against Real Madrid.

Honestly, credit to Karius for really not only thinking of himself but for others as well. The German goalkeeper went through more than enough backlash last year after his mistakes had a hand in costing Liverpool another European Cup. One thing we have to remember is that he is human.

Just like all the rest of us, he makes mistakes and it is not easy for a 24 year-old to go out on that stage and be flawless. People forget how good of a season he was having up until that point, and he was a big factor in Liverpool making it as far as they did.

Going back to that same stage to watch his current/former club win would be a tough scene for anyone to take and his decision makes complete sense. After being loaned out to Besiktas in Turkey, the keeper has still not been able to fully regain his confidence after making a couple more big mistakes in games during this year’s campaign.

As football fans, it would be great to see Loris Karius make a comeback to prove everyone wrong, because he really is a solid, young talent in between the sticks.
