1. The persona of Klopp

One would be hard pressed to think of a manager in world football right now that represents their club as exuberantly and faithfully as Jürgen Klopp represents Liverpool. The German has breathed new life into the club since taking over in 2015 and has both his players and the Reds fan base believing that a Champions League victory is just around the corner.

On the other side of things, Mauricio Pochettino is no slouch either, and largely checks off the same criteria that Klopp does, but there just feels to be a certain aura around this Liverpool club this season, who after racking up an impressive 97 points during their Premier League season, still fell short to Manchester City for the crown by a single point. Something’s got to give, right?

True, Klopp’s clubs have not performed well in finals before, but with this team up against a familiar English foe, one would like to think that given how their season has gone, after falling short to Man City and after an incredible turnaround against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals, overcoming a 3-0 deficit, that Klopp is just the kind of manager that can will his club over the finish line. He’s the kind of manager that a player would run through the proverbial brick wall for.

Klopp is a romantic in the way he talks about the beautiful game. It’s something that could make even the most casual observer understand what it means for him to coach at a historic club like Liverpool and bring a title back to them.

Backed up by no statistical analysis but rather the sheer emotion of which you see pour out of him after matches, revving up the Anfield faithful, it could come down to the persona of Klopp that gives his club the confidence and belief that they are good enough (and they are) to hoist the most prestigious trophy in European football at the end of the day. It just might come down to Klopp being Klopp as the most important factor in this historic match.
