Barcelona really struggle to get the best out of the Brazilian…

As the summer fast approaches, clubs around Europe will be planning the best strategies to rebuild their squads ahead of the new season. Barcelona is not excluded from this list, despite their recent efforts to reshuffle at managerial level. They failed in the Champions League semifinal and the Copa del Rey final, so they need to re-strengthen in order to keep up next season.

A flurry of incomings should be expected, as is always the case. However, Barcelona will need to part ways with some of their star players too. According to the Daily Star, Philippe Coutinho could be one that is let go by Barcelona. The 26-year-old is subject to interest from Manchester United and Chelsea but it will all depend on if they can put in a sizeable enough bid for him.

More from FC Barcelona

Coutinho is nearing the prime stages of his career. However, he isn’t being used to the best of his ability at the Camp Nou. He has shown displays of brilliance with Barcelona, just like he did with Liverpool, but the tactics have not been tailored to his specialities. This can be understood since he was Liverpool’s best player but nobody will top Lionel Messi at Barcelona.

Coutinho had a terrific World Cup display with Brazil in the summer. This is because, alongside Neymar, he acted as the focal point of play. Coutinho likes this onus because it allows him to bring the ball forward at his own pace and allows his creative prowess to flourish. It’s not rocket science, if you want the best out of Coutinho, make the play run through him.

However, he has had to settle for a different role with Barcelona, which is where it does become rocket science. It goes without saying that Lionel Messi dictates the attacking play for Barca and that will remain the case until he retires. However, should the Catalans bring in a new manager, then he could easily find ways to incorporate Coutinho’s play into the system.
