Antoine Griezmann divulged he knows where his future is headed. Surprisingly, it may not be Barcelona.
In an interview with Telefoot, Antoine Griezmann had plenty to say about where he will be applying his trade next season.
In an interview with Telefoot, a French television program, he said, “I know where I want to go and the sacrifices I have to make to get there. All I ask is for a bit of patience. As soon as I can say it, it will be with pleasure.”
Ever since Griezmann announced he was leaving Atletico Madrid, the consensus has been that he would wind up at Barcelona. However, what was once seen as a lock, that may no longer be the case. According to Sport, Griezmann has identified PSG as an alternative should the Barcelona deal fall through. They go so far as to report that he has met with PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi and that an agreement is in place.
Why, after seemingly having a deal with Barcelona, would Griezmann change his mind?
The answer might be the negative reaction from the Barcelona locker room about his potential arrival. There were reports that the locker room did not want Griezmann to join because of the saga the prior year where everything indicated he was going to join until he released a documentary stating his intention of remaining with Atletico Madrid.
There is a bit of credence to that rumor considering Lionel Messi’s comments prior to the Copa del Rey final when asked about Griezmann potentially joining the Catalan side. Whereas last year he was full of nothing but praise for the Frenchman, this time around he opted to not give a comment and sidestep the question.
If Barcelona are looking for solace anywhere, despite the PSG rumors, Griezmann mentioning that he had to make sacrifices to join his next club may allude to the rumor that the deal with Barcelona means that he would have to reduce his wages and be comfortable with having less protagonism.
His release clause drops to a “measly” €120 million on July 1 so expect a definitive answer close to that date.
