Arsenal fans can take a breath of fresh air…

As a great man once said, attack wins you games but defence wins you titles. Arsenal knows this all too well since it is their defence which often lets them down. However, it’s still no good having a strong defence if you don’t have the strikers to match.

Luckily, Arsenal has been blessed in the last two seasons with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Both are world class strikers, so to have them competing for places is a nice problem to have. Unai Emery resolved this problem by settling for the strike duo, as opposed to forcing one to sit on the bench.

It worked, too. Lacazette had one of the best seasons of his career (albeit not statistically) and Aubameyang won the joint Premier League golden boot, although he did have the best goals per game ratio out of him, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

However, there was a scare among the Arsenal faithful recently regarding Aubemeyang. The Metro was quick to report that Aubemeyang had deleted Arsenal from his profile picture and bio on Instagram. Obviously, there is only so much you can tell from someone’s social media activity but in the age we live in, this was bound to cause a scare.

Now, according to football.london, the Gunners executives are planning to enter talks with both Aubameyang and Lacazette about their contract extensions. That said, it’s about time the Emirates Stadium faithful took a collective sigh of relief.

Aubemeyang and Lacazette are amazing in their own right, however, they’re best when they feed from each other. Lacazette is the more intricate of the two, whereas Aubameyang is the type that can run in behind the opposing defenders.

Both are vital to maintaining the positive aura behind the scenes in training. That said, the fact that Arsenal is prioritising keeping their players as opposed to signing new players shows the positive changes which have taken place since Unai Emery took charge.

Do you think Aubameyang and Lacazette will stay at Arsenal for many more years?
