What is Liverpool planning to do with midfielder Nabil Fekir?

Another year, another transfer saga with Liverpool and Olympique Lyon over the services of midfielder Nabil Fekir.

Multiple conflicting reports have come out recently claiming that Liverpool is back in on Nabil Fekir if they can get a reduced price. Respected French journal Le Progres reported Thursday that,

"Nabil Fekir has a good exit. Liverpool always follows him. But the Lyon captain no longer has the same aura."

However, The Independent has reported a very different story claiming,

"Liverpool have no plans to resurrect a deal for Lyon play maker Nabil Fekir despite claims to the contrary in his native France."

More from Liverpool FC

Jean-Michel Aulus will try to get over £50 million for the French superstar, but it is rumoured Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp will try to not spend more than £30 million on the player. With that being said, the Reds and Michael Edwards are usually quiet about their transfer business before it happens, so having claims refuting their interest makes perfect sense.

Even after winning the Champions League this summer, Liverpool will be looking to improve and Fekir would automatically impact the midfield and attack in the number ten position. It is a role that will usually be taken up by Naby Keita or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but having depth is very key especially if you want to compete in both the domestic and European competitions.

The 25-year-old is still young and can improve under the German manager as well. The dodgy knees are a concern, but it is hard to really tell how chronic the injury is.

If you look at a team like Manchester City, they have an entire second squad that would probably fight to get into the top four of the league. Liverpool needs that same depth if they want to beat City in the league come year’s end.

Fekir will provide that and a little bit more. The Merseysiders have missed that player who can pass through the middle of defences and really be a creator. His addition could make life much easier for Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah, and Sadio Mane as they all look to add to their goal tallies.

Nobody knows if Liverpool is actually interested in Nabil Fekir, but there is no doubt they should want him.
