Liverpool fans have recently hit up the Twitter polls to ensure legend Lucas Leiva wins Lazio’s Player of the Season for a second consecutive year.

Lucas Leiva was a cult favorite at Liverpool; he will never be a legend in terms of talent, but in every other category he was Scouser through and through. It appears the Liverpool fans still think the same of him as well with the following taking place on the Lazio Twitter account.

As you can see if you vote, Lucas has 93% of the tally, which can most likely be contributed to thousands of Reds fans logging on to support him. According to WhoScored, the Brazilian midfielder finished the season with only one goal and three assists, but will beat players like Ciro Immobile who had a count of 20 goals and 10 assists. Even Sergej Milinkovic-Savic had seven goals and three assists.

The statistics make the story even more funny, and show how much he is loved around Merseyside. He is now seen everywhere on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with his famous GIF of him saying “Unluckeeeeee” in a LFC TV production.

The Reds have had a few cult heroes in the past few years with players like Ragnar Klavan, Divock Origi, Luis Garcia, and Kolo Toure coming to mind. For many fans, Lucas Leiva trumps them all, given the legnth of his tenure and all he endured at the club. Ten years and 247 caps is no joke at all, as nowadays players do not usually stay around for that long.

The 32 year-old was a part of Liverpool’s 2012 League Cup winning team, but that was the only trophy he won during his stay at Anfield. His Brazilian roots also helped the Reds get the signatures of fellow Samba mates, Phil Coutinho and Roberto Firmino. He might not be the best player on the pitch, but he will always be remembered and cherished.
