Blaise Matuidi

This move is less of a necessity than most of the others on the list, but it is one i would rather see made too early than too late. Juventus could still probably get a decent value for the 32 year old Matuidi and they don’t really need him anymore. There is also a chance that we start to see Matuidi decline this season. His fantastic defensive efforts have made him difficult to rest for both Juventus and the French national team. That has led to him racking up a ton of minutes played over the last few years. At some point his high level of effort combined with the amount of minutes he puts in are going to add up and he’s going to start to wear down.

There is an argument to be made that Juventus doesn’t actually need him any more either. Rodrigo Bentancur was clearly improving throughout the season last year and appears to have the tools to take over Matuidi’s role long-term. Emre Can could also slide into this role next season if Juventus were to sell Matuidi. It also seems like Juventus could be in the market for a midfielder who would take over Matuidi’s starting spot (Adrien Rabiot).

Blaise Matuidi has done a great job defensively for Juventus over the last few years, but they should let him leave before he starts to decline so they get as much value as possible. He may have another year left, but after one more season other teams may be scared off by the possibility of a steep decline from an old player who relies on a high level of effort.
