Hakim Ziyech

I would usually be strongly against a move like this. Usually when a team makes a signing like this they make it just because they can. That’s how you end up with a bench full of expensive stars and a whole lot of chemistry issues. In this case I wouldn’t have any issue with the move.

Right now Juventus has 3 players on their roster who play on the right wing in Juan Cuadrado, Douglas Costa, and Federico Bernardeschi, but Cuadrado will likely be sold this summer and Costa could be on his way out as well. Even if Costa wants to stay I think Juventus would be better off selling him and bringing in Ziyech to replace him.

Ziyech is simply more talented than Costa and more flexible with where he can play because of his

ability to play in the midfield as well. With him on the team Juventus would have the options to play him in a 4-3-3 or even put him behind 2 strikers and move into a 4-3-1-2 if they want to.  There is also the matter of money involved in this signing. If it is true that Ajax is really willing to let Ziyech leave for around 35 millions euros then Juventus could actually turn a profit by selling Costa to bring Ziyech in.

Juventus got a good look at just how dangerous Ziyech can be when his Ajax squad knocked Juve out of the Champions League. He also managed to either score or assist a goal in all but one of his 6 knockout stage games this year. The one match he didn’t score was the first leg against Juve and even in that match he constantly looked like he on the verge of putting Juve away.

It may seem like an unnecessary transfer, but it is exactly the type of move that could put Juve back into contention for the Champions League trophy they’ve been chasing for over 2 decades.
