Dalbert

In his to years at Inter Milan, Dalbert has struggled to earn himself anything even resembling regular minutes. Last season Inter even brought in Kwadwo Asamoah to take over the left back position because they didn’t trust Dalbert to do it. Now he could potentially have even more competition for minutes at left back.

Federico Dimarco spent last season on loan at Parma, but he played well enough there to draw attention from some other clubs this summer. Instead of letting him leave, Inter would be better served to let him take over Dalbert’s backup role as he continues to develop and eventually take over for Asamoah when he starts to decline. Inter would also benefit from Dimarco’s lower salary and Dalbert’s bigger transfer fee if they were to take this route.

Unlike with Candreva and Ranocchia, Inter wouldn’t have to worry about taking a big loss on the sale of Dalbert because of a decline in playing ability. Dalbert’s issues have instead been caused by a lack of regular playing time.

That means it shouldn’t be too difficult for Inter to find somebody to pay around the same price they did for Dalbert 2 years ago. He is also still only 25 years old, so whatever team does bring him in would be able to do so with the expectation that he’ll be around for a while.

He still likely has plenty of good years left in him and if Inter wasn’t planning to spend a ton of money this summer then that would be enough reason for Inter to keep him around for a little bit longer. That’s not the case though and selling Dalbert looks like an easy way to fund some of their summer of fun as long as they are comfortable with Dimarco taking over the backup role.
