Napoli needs a big summer to get back into contention with Juventus after a disappointing season.

They won’t be spending too crazily like some other teams at the top of Serie A, but they will still need to build up a budget to make the moves they are looking to make. Luckily for them, they have quite a few players who no longer serve a purpose at the squad, but could be sold to raise funds for the potential transfers of players like James Rodriguez and Kostas Manolas. Let’s take a look at the players who will be let go to make room for these big names.

Vlad Chiriches

It’s been a while since Vlad Chiriches was really of any use to Napoli. His most match appearances in a single season, which he did each of his first two seasons at Napoli. In the 2 seasons since then he has logged 8 and 6 appearances, with 3 of last year’s appearances coming in the Europa League. Now he’s going to be buried even further down the bench after this summer thanks to the seemingly inevitable acquisition of Kostas Manolas.

Napoli didn’t take on much risk when they brought in Chiriches, only paying Tottenham 7 million euros for his transfer. That makes letting him go on the cheap a little bit easier to swallow for Napoli. They really have no reason to keep him around with no playing time available for him. Sending him out on loan also doesn’t do them any good. if they can sell him to some team who needs depth at center back for 5 million euros then it would be the best they can hope for out of this situation to clear some space on the roster and bring in a little bit of cash to help fund their pursuit of a Scudetto.
