Injured Chelsea star agrees new long-term contract

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has agreed to a new contract with Chelsea FC which will see him at the Stamford Bridge  for the next five years and is believed to be worth a whooping £150,000-a-week.

The English youngster who climbed up the ranks through the club is currently injured with a ruptured Achilles after Chelsea’s friendly with New England Revolution, in the United States. With the risk of missing the whole of the upcoming season it seemed a bit strange for the club to offer an extension to the player given the fact that he already had two more years left on his previous contract.  However, Loftus-Cheek seems to have impressed the club with his performances over the last season for them to reward him with an extension.

Loftus-Cheek had become a regular face for former manager Maurizio Sarri and had performed really well, scoring 10 goals and assisting 5 in all competitions for the club, to only be surpassed by Olivier Giroud, Pedro and Eden Hazard. The contract extension, yet to be formally announced, can be anticipated to be made official along with the announcement of the arrival of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard as the new manager of the club, after Sarri departed to take up the helm at Juventus.

The imminent arrival of Lampard as the new manager and the the club extending Loftus-Cheek’s contract can be an indicator that the midfielder would play a key role in Lmaprds plans for the club, once back from injury and can also be a key player in Gareth Southgate’s plans for England for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2020. The news of Chelsea wanting to extend contracts of youngsters Callum Hudson-Odoi for his standout performances last season and Reece James and Mason Mount who were impressive for Wigan Atheltic and Derby County respectively, nothing but displays the clubs desire to tie down their young talents, given the transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA.

Chelsea play two games in Dublin before they travel to Japan where they face Kawasaki Frontale and FC Barcelona, with the club bound to have Frank Lampard overseeing things from the sidelines.
