1. 2015 CONCACAF Cup

The 2015 CONCACAF Cup was a new tournament pinning the winners of the previous two Gold Cup tournaments to determine who was the ‘true champion’ of the region. In other words, it was a bit of a cash-grab by the federation.

It was a game in which Mexico took the lead twice before the USMNT clawed back to even the score. Mexico managed to take the lead in extra time before Bobby Wood equalized. All signs seemed to point that the game was headed to penalty kicks before Paul Aguilar stepped up.

The right-back volleyed the ball past a diving Brad Guzan following clearances from the defense. It’s arguably one of the best goals in the rivalry giving Mexico a 3-2 win and clinching a Confederations Cup birth.

It also ended a six-game unbeaten run for the US over Mexico and killed off a bit of the dominance that the US had experienced over Mexico. It was one of the better moments for Juan Carlos Osorio during his time as manager and another nail in the coffin for Klinsmann before he was ultimately fired.
