Frank Lampard, who is an ex-teammate of Luiz, was named the new blues manager last week and according to the Evening Standard, the Brazilian believes that he will do wonders in the position.

A new wave has hit Stamford Bridge with ex-Chelsea legend Frank Lampard now the new boss after the departure of Maurizio Sarri to Juventus. There were some doubts if the former Derby County manager would leave the Rams after just one season, but it’s clear that the opportunity to manage his former club was too good to pass up.

David Luiz, who played with Lampard from 2011-14, has made it clear that he believes the English legend is the right man for the job because he understands the DNA of this club and what it takes to be great in the Premier League.

"“Lamps, or should I say ‘Gaffer’, is now our leader and he’s going to try to do everything he can like he did when he was a player, and now it’s up to us to help him build the spirit and the philosophy around the club to be successful.”-Luiz to Evening Standard"

Lampard had an outstanding career with Chelsea, winning three Premier League titles and one Champions League title. He’s considered one of the best midfielders to ever play for the club, scoring 147 goals in 429 appearances across 13 seasons. Despite his impressive accolades as a player, it’s yet to be seen if he can guide Chelsea to a top-three finish. In his first managerial job last season with Derby, he led them to a sixth-place finish, which is pretty respectable.

However, managing at Chelsea will come with a lot more criticism and added pressure, but he is aware of that since he is an ex-player of the club. With their transfer ban still intact, they haven’t been able to sign any new players after losing Eden Hazard to Real Madrid.

They have brought certain players back from their loan spells such as Michy Batshuayi, who played for Palace last year and Mason Mount, who played under Lampard at Derby County last season and showed a lot of quality in the midfield. Tammy Abraham, who bagged 26 goals in 40 appearances with Aston Villa last season, is back with the club for now as well.

Christian Pulisic is their big signing from earlier in the year who will bring a lot of excitement in the final third after starring for Dortmund for the last number of years.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is still recovering from an ankle injury, but he is expected to see more playing time this season once he is healthy, along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who is also injured. Batshuayi should definitely see some minutes up front as well after an impressive loan spell at the end of last season with Crystal Palace.

It’s going to be a slightly different look at Chelsea this season with youngsters playing a more vital role, but Lampard is giving everyone the chance to prove themselves in pre-season action in Ireland as they prepare for their Premier League opener on August 11th against Manchester United.
