Former star Peter Crouch announces shock career move
By Josh Ricker
Former Premier League star Peter Crouch, has announced a shock career move; retirement from football.
One of the most interesting footballers the world has ever seen, Peter Crouch is hanging up his boots and calling it quits on his footy career. What a career it was. Standing in at 6 feet 7 inches, Crouch towered over defenders and was a threat anywhere in the box.
According to The Guardian, this is what Crouch had to say about the situation on social media,
"In a statement on Twitter, Crouch said: I’m so thankful to everyone who helped me get there and to help me stay there for so long. If you told me at 17 I’d play in World Cups , get to a Champions League final, win the FA Cup and get 100 Premier League goals I would have avoided you at all costs. It’s been an absolute dream come true.”"
In 468 appearances in the Premier League, the English forward scored 108 goals and racked up 58 assists as well. The 38 year-old played for QPR, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Norwich City, Southampton, Liverpool, Tottenham, Stoke City, and Burnley. One of his most memorable goals for Liverpool in the Champions League can be found in the video linked below.
Internationally, “Crouchinho” had 42 caps for the England National Team, netting 22 goals, a very solid tally. Towards the end of his career, Crouch was the ultimate super-sub, coming on for the last few minutes, set pieces, or corners to oppose his will on the defense.
Personally, when he came on for Burnley late against Liverpool last season, I was scared. Even with Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip standing tall in the middle, I felt personally threatened by his lanky shadow in the penalty area. To be three inches taller than one of the biggest and most intimidating players in the Premier League is a gift many players probably wished they had.
There is no doubt Peter Crouch had a great career, and I am sure he will enjoy retirement with his wife and four children. Happy retirement Crouchy!
