Lionel Messi‘s opinion carries a lot of weight at Barcelona. It is important that the Argentine legend is in favour of bringing Neymar back to the club.

It wasn’t all that long ago that Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar formed one of the deadliest attacks in La Liga. Evidently, Messi longs for those days. The talented Argentine is pushing Barcelona officials to bring his former Brazilian teammate back to La Liga.

According to Graham Hunter, Messi is the “driving force” behind Barcelona’s attempts to buy Neymar from PSG. It shouldn’t surprise anyone to learn that Barca officials react quickly to any wish Messi expresses. He pulls the strings on and off the pitch for the Spanish giants.

It also makes perfect sense for Messi to want to see Neymar return to Barcelona. The two have the ability to form an excellent partnership on the pitch. Messi is at his best when he’s creating opportunities for his teammates. Neymar flourishes when he’s free and clear to focus his energy on finding the back of the net. Each player has the ability to make football much easier for the other.

The natural question is whether or not Barcelona are willing to make the necessary funds available to arrange such a sensational return. Neymar’s move to PSG didn’t work out quite like he or the French club would have hoped, but that doesn’t mean officials in Paris are in any mood to lose their most marketable star. Barcelona may have to allow PSG to turn a reasonable profit on the transaction if they want to cut Neymar’s stay in Paris short.

Of course, Barcelona officials have a lot of motivation to make a deal happy. On top of keeping the most powerful player in their club’s history happy, they also realize they must invest heavily in their squad to stay on top of their domestic league. The return of Zinedine Zidane to Real Madrid likely means their arch rivals will be on the ascent once again. Barcelona can’t afford to sit back and watch Real strengthen their squad this summer without making any major changes of their own.

In the end, odds favour Neymar returning to Barcelona before the start of the 2019/20 season. The combination of logic and Messi’s wishes will be too much for Barca officials to resist. Expect the move to be hailed as the transfer of the summer by fans and media members alike.
