Arsenal add another much needed signing in the form of Spanish midfielder, Dani Ceballos.

Arsenal finally get involved in the transfer market and complete the loan move of Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid. He joins the London-based side on a one year loan and is coming off a superb showing in in the Under-21 Championship which Spain won and he was the team’s captain.

There was a bit of a hold-up and his signing was put in question following Marco Asensio’s injury in which he ruptured his cruciate ligament and needed to have surgery. Bleacher Report report that this injury may cause Asensio to miss the entire season.

But with Real Madrid’s recent influx of new players, Ceballos knew that finding playing time at Madrid was still going to be difficult. Arsenal having a Spanish manager in Unai Emery also steered him towards Arsenal.

According to The Guardian, he said, “The coach was the turning point in terms of me joining this massive club. He’s a Spanish coach and he knows me from my time in other clubs . . . I knew I had the confidence of the coach, which was very important. He’s a very tactical coach and I think that’s going to really help me to perfect my positioning.”

It also helps that he has Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal who are also Spanish and can help him get acclimated to England and the culture of the club.

Ceballos stated that Arsenal’s history and watching them play in the Champions League growing up also helped in his decision. Arsenal was facing competition from rivals Tottenham to acquire his services. The fact that they were able to not only improve their midfield but keep him from joining Spurs has to feel good for both the club and its fans.

Despite it only being a loan, Arsenal is hoping that Ceballos can replace the production they lost when Aaron Ramsey left on a free and signed with Juventus. Based on his performance over the summer, Ceballos should start alongside the likes of Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka.
