It’s been a long time coming, but could this finally be the transfer window that Manchester United sign their biggest target?

Manchester United is having a fairly good transfer window. They have secured the signings of right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and left-winger Daniel James. Both players came with big fees, which means they will have a lot of expectation placed on them upon arrival.

However, they are not done there. According to The Mirror, Manchester United is closing in on a deal for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The 24-year-old has proven his worth with Lazio over the last few seasons, becoming a regular feature of United’s transfer talk.

More from Manchester United

It’s not difficult to see why either. The Serbian international is one of the best in Serie A at what he does and ageing at just 24 years old, he has plenty of time to establish himself into one of the world’s best.

Milinkovic-Savic is a versatile midfielder, who is even comparable to Paul Pogba. He has the attacking prowess, however, he also has the ability to control the midfield by covering the backline, deploying his defensive duties well. These traits will serve him well should he sign the deal with Manchester United, with both parties benefiting from the transfer.

One thing which United needs to improve on going into next season is the defensive side of their midfield. Fred was signed to try and bridge the gap, however, his transfer has not worked out. Pogba is able to play in the defensive role, however, this often leads to him being limited and it would be a shame to see his attacking side put to waste.

If Milinkovic-Savic can come in and add balance to this United squad, then we are talking about a top-four worthy side. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows what he needs to do, so if Pogba is to be sold this summer, then the board must act promptly to bring in Milinkovic-Savic as his replacement.

Do you think Manchester United will sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer?
