Sir Alex Ferguson advises Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United to sign 24-year-old John McGinn from Aston Villa instead of Sporting’s Bruno Fernandes…

Manchester United’s summer is not over yet as they are looking to sign more players to strengthen their squad. With the arrivals of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the Red Devils are making the right moves in the transfer window, bolstering their weak spots and not just blindly splashing money on superstars. However, they don’t seem to be just done yet and are in the market for a midfielder.

With a possibility of Paul Pogba’s departure from Old Trafford for Real Madrid, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men would require a replacement in midfield to fill in the Frenchman’s shoes. The Red Devils are linked with a lot of names such as  Ivan Rakitic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and Sean Longstaff to name a few.

More from Manchester United

However, one such player that has been strongly linked to United in various media reports is Sporting CP’s Bruno Fernandes. The 24-year-old has put up some crucial performances for the Portuguese side netting 32 goals and assisting 18 in 53 appearances for Sporting in all competitions last season and United fans believe that he can recreate similar performances for them too.

Solskjaer seems to be actively pursuing Bruno Fernandes, however, United Legend Sir Alex Ferguson seems to be having someone else in mind. As per The Sun, the legendary ex-Manchester United manager is pushing for the club to sign 24-year-old Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn. The report suggests that Sir Alex Ferguson is good friends with McGinn’s grandfather and has a strong desire for the Scottish to join Unite this season.

John McGinn contributed to 16 goals in the Championship last season and helped Aston Villa secure promotion to the Premier League. The Scottish, with strong performances last season has managed to create an excellent impression on one of the greatest football managers of all time and this has led to Sir Alex Ferguson asking Manchester United to opt for his compatriot.

Aston Villa are asking for at least £50 million for one of their standout performers from last season and with United being a bit short of money in their transfer budget, paying so much for McGinn would not sound like a good deal in their given situation.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson’s seal of approval could convince Manchester United to shell out the money and bring the Scottish midfielder to Old Trafford this summer.

Will Sir Alex Ferguson get his way and convince United to sign McGinn, or will they continue to pursue Bruno Fernandes?
