However, Daily Mail reports that the issue Celtic had was Arsenal’s proposal of paying the amount in installments and add-ons so as to stay within their limited transfer budget. The Gunners seem to have restructured their offer and have proposed to pay a greater amount up front to the Scottish champions, which seems to have convinced Celtic to let go ff one of their main players.
This major breakthrough for Arsenal comes after they reportedly sealed the deal for Lille’s Nicolas Pepe, with the Ivory Coast player to be announced as a Gunner soon. As per Metro, Kieran Tierney was happy at Celtic but wants a chance to prove himself in the Premier League and the Scottish champions seem to be willing to grant the player his wish. The Scottish left back, who has scored 8 times and assisted 27 in all competitions during his time at Celtic has had his problems with injuries last season with a pelvic issue following a double hernia surgery. However, Arsenal boss Unai Emery seems to be willing to trust the player and wants to get the deal finalized as early as possible.
Liverpool center back Virgil van Dijk backed Tierney, who he played with during the Dutch’s time at Celtic, to succeed at Arsenal, as per Metro. The Netherlands international had the following to say:
"“It is not an easy step to make and you have to play well to do it but he has the qualities.Kieran made his debut against Dundee when I was at Celtic. I scored a free-kick up there and then he came on and helped us get the win. You could tell he was a good player who would do well.”"
Liverpool’s left back Andrew Robertson also spoke highly of his fellow compatriot, praising the 22 year old’s footballing skills and saying that he will make the right choice, while wishing him luck.
