Grading all Juventus transfers for the month of July

Adrien Rabiot signing: A-
Adrien Rabiot was the second Bosman transfer Juventus completed this summer and I think that he’ll be the more impactful of the two. Yes, his departure from PSG was an absolute mess that led to us not seeing him on the field at all in 2019, but that doesn’t make him any less talented. It is abundantly clear why teams like Manchester United were trying to pry him away from PSG last summer.
Rabiot is a very good defensive player and an accurate passer. He will be an immediate improvement fellow french midfielder, Blaise Matuidi. During his time at PSG, Rabiot averaged over 2 tackles and nearly 1.5 interceptions per match while also completing over 90% of his passes and at just 24 years old we could see him continue to get better during his time at Juve.
Juventus needed to get younger in the midfield and bringing in Rabiot is perfect way to achieve that. It was only a matter of time before Matuidi began to decline, especially with the insane amount of time he has had to play between Juve and the French National Team over the last few years. Bringing in Rabiot to replace him now instead of waiting for that decline is the type of move Juve needs to make to keep themselves competitive with the rest of Europe’s top teams. He should fit right into the starting lineup this season and long-term he will be part of a solid midfield that includes himself, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Emre Can. This was a great move for Juve.
