Winning Experience

They say that winning is a habit, and there is no team in Italy that wins more habitually than Juventus. That may seem like a weird reason to think that Juventus will continue to win, but mindset is a big factor in sports. In fact, a lack of experience winning trophies is why a lot of fans were skeptical about bringing in Maurizio Sarri as the new manager (more about him later).

The funny thing is, the reason Sarri never won anything until he went to Chelsea is that Juventus has done nothing but win recently. It’s because of this that no other team in Serie A right now can claim to have any experience winning.

Meanwhile, Juve’s squad is filled with guys like Giorgio Chiellini and Gianluigi Buffon who have spent the entirety of their careers winning. This type of experience is invaluable when things get tough in the middle of the season or when you are in a dogfight with another team all season and have to outlast them down the stretch to win silverware.

Teams like Napoli and Inter don’t know what it’s like to win anymore. It’s part of why Inter seemingly underperforms every year They don’t have that winning mentality and when things start to go wrong they haven’t had anybody to right the ship.

Introducing winners like Diego Godin and Antonio Conte this season might help with that, but they don’t boast an entire lineup with winning experience like Juventus does. Napoli has seemingly been repeatedly unable to make the final push past Juve in previous title races because of a similar lack of winning experience.

At the end of the day, if Juve ends up even with either of these teams late in the season then this experience should be the factor that allows Juve to lift yet another trophy.
