Tottenham were lucky to take a point off of Manchester City last weekend, but they’re set to steamroll Newcastle at home on Sunday.
Playing at Manchester City may have been Tottenham’s most difficult fixture of the season. Fortunately for Mauricio Pochettino and company, they get Newcastle at home on Sunday. The fixture against the Magpies might be one of the easiest Premier League encounters of the season for Spurs.
Tottenham fans won’t be satisfied with a narrow win over Steve Bruce’s winless side. They’ll want to see a dominating effort. Read on to discover three reason why you can expect Spurs to win in a one-sided affair.
3. Hugo Lloris won’t be troubled
If Newcastle want to get something from this match they will need excellent play from their two strikers. Neither Joelinton or Miguel Almiron has done much to trouble opponents this season. It’s unlikely that their luck will change on Sunday.
As such, Hugo Lloris may be in for a very boring 90 minutes. Tottenham’s French captain certainly won’t complain if that’s the case. He’d be more than happy to earn a clean sheet without being forced into any difficult saves.
2. Ndombele will dominate Shelvey
Newcastle will try to muddle the game up by throwing a lot of bodies into the midfield. When he’s given time and space, Jonjo Shelvey has the talent to pick apart a Premier League defence. Spurs aren’t going to give him a moment’s piece on the ball.
Tanguy Ndombele will be the main man charged with silencing Shelvey. Tottenham’s record signing is too big and too quick for the Newcastle midfielder to shake. Look for Ndombele to make sure Shelvey is starved of service for the full 90 minutes.
1. The return of Heung-Min Son
Tottenham fans can’t wait to see their favourite Korean running all over the pitch on Sunday. Newcastle defenders will be significantly less excited about the prospect of chasing Son down the left flank.
That happens to be the Magpies’ biggest area of weakness on the young season. Emil Krafth and his Whoscored.com player rating average of 5.89 on the season will be unable to keep Son under control in the slightest. Even if Son doesn’t score a goal on his return, he’s going to create a ton of chances for his teammates. Look for his return to the starting XI to be the perfect cure for what’s ailed Spurs’ attack on the young season.
