Batshuayi has been left out of Lampard’s squad so far this season, but according to the Evening Standard, he still wants to fight for a spot at Stamford Bridge.
Despite a lack of playing time, Michy Batshuayi still wants to give it his best shot at impressing Frank Lampard. The Belgian played well in a 3-0 win with Chelsea’s developmental squad over Liverpool earlier this week, netting twice while the big boss watched from the stands.
Batshuayi has enjoyed several loan spells away from Chelsea, who he signed with back in 2016 for 33.2 million euros from Marseille. He’s had a tough time breaking into the squad, spending time with Dortmund, Valencia, and most recently, Crystal Palace last season. The Blues brought the 25-year back to the club because of their transfer ban, but Batshuayi hasn’t seen much playing time up front, currently sitting behind Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham in the pecking order.

The Belgian striker has voiced that he will reassess the situation in January when the next transfer window opens up, especially if he doesn’t see the pitch much in the coming months.
Chelsea is off to one of their worst starts to a Premier League campaign ever, collecting just one point after a 4-0 loss to Manchester United in the league opener and then drawing 1-1 with Leicester City last weekend. They are really struggling to score goals and frankly, having Olivier Giroud as your primary number nine isn’t going to do the job. Tammy Abraham was stellar last year on his loan spell at Aston Villa, but the youngster has struggled so far with Chelsea as the secondary central striker.
The Blues have failed to even win a match this season thus far, so at this point, Lampard may as well give Batshuayi the opportunity to prove himself. He has nothing to lose because his other two strikers are not scoring.
If Batshuayi doesn’t get a fair chance at cracking the starting eleven, there are many teams in Europe who would love to have his services up front. I totally agree with him wanting to prove himself to Lampard, especially after so many years of being loaned out by the club since becoming a player at Stamford Bridge way back in 2016. But if he doesn’t get the opportunity that he deserves, Batshuayi should definitely explore options elsewhere in the January transfer window.
His talent is going to waste if he just continues to sit on the bench for Lampard’s side.
With Champions League group stages and League Cup competitions starting up in September, Batshuayi could see his situation get better.
