Juventus may be inclined to sell to Barcelona in order to raise funds…
It’s been an interesting transfer window but it will soon come to an end. We have seen some huge stars switch sides, including Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona and Eden Hazard to Real Madrid. However, it is not yet over.
According to Calciomercato, Ernesto Valverde and company are keen advocates of Rodrigo Bentancur and want to bring him in this summer. The midfielder ages at just 22 years old and is already playing at the highest level, so he could easily be worth a lot of cash.
Bentancur burst onto the scene last season and he soon became a first-team regular following his exploits in the midfield. He is a versatile midfielder, which was handy for Massimiliano Allegri since he could be utilised in almost any system. Barcelona also play with a fluid system and they like to shape up in order to win over their opposition, so similarities can already be drawn.

Bentancur is best used in a midfield three since this is how he’s been used behind Cristiano Ronaldo throughout most of last season. However, he can always act as the defensive midfielder if need be. His main traits revolve around his passing of the ball, although he is also very good at the defensive side of things.
It’s this nitty-gritty defending that Barcelona missed in their opening La Liga fixture to Athletic Bilbao. I’m certain that Ernesto Valverde has been pondering what changes he needs to make, hence the sudden interest in Bentancur.
Juventus will want to end their transfer window on a high so losing one of their first-team regulars is not ideal. However, they brought in Bosman transfers Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot so they are more than stacked in the midfield department.
Should Bentancur sign, then not only will he instantly fix Barcelona’s midfield problems, but he will be a long-term option and a worthy investment from the board. It will all just come down to whether or not Maurizio Sarri deems his surplus to requirements.
Do you think Barcelona should sign Rodrigo Bentancur this summer?
