Keylor Navas has informed Real Madrid that he wants out of the club as he is not satisfied being a back-up.
The transfer deadline is fast approaching and Real Madrid are still looking to make moves both to add and subtract from their squad. Adding a goalkeeper is now on their list as Keylor Navas looks for a move away from the club.
According to Marca, Navas is once again unhappy at being second choice and has asked the club to sell him. Thibault Courtois has cemented his place as the starting keeper and has the confidence of Zinedine Zidane.
The club is reportedly going to accommodate his wishes and will look to find a club before the transfer window closes.
As far as any teams he could join, Diario AS report that Thomas Tuchel would like to have him at Paris Saint Germain. The German coach does not appear to have much faith in his current goalkeeper.
According to AS, he said, “Will Alphonse come out? I cannot confirm it while the market is still open. Each player has to prove their quality, including Alphonse.”
Keylor had previously been linked with a move to PSG and it recently came out that the Ligue 1 champions actually rejected a proposal from Real Madrid that would have netted them Navas alongside Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, and cash in exchange for Neymar.
Should Real Madrid sell him, AS report that the club have sounded out Pepe Reina as a possible replacement. The club want an experienced back-up and one that will be good for the locker room. Reina fits that criteria as he has experience being a back-up but can also step in as a starter when needed. One of the reasons he kept getting called up to the Spanish National Team was because of his personality and how he was a positive influence in the locker room. During his time, Spain needed that considering the rivalry at the time between Barcelona and Real Madrid players.
For Keylor Navas, it is time to move on from a club where it can be argued that he was treated somewhat unfairly and was never fully trusted. Even being an integral part of three consecutive Champions League titles, it seemed like Madrid were always looking to find an upgrade. Had it not been for a faulty fax machine, they would have replaced him with Manchester United’s David De Gea.
Navas has been nothing but a profession during his time at Madrid and for a goalie of his caliber, deserves a place where he is first choice and a place where he is actually wanted.
