Don’t rule out Napoli’s chances in the Serie A this season…

Napoli had another successful Serie A campaign last season. The Partenopei finished with 79 total points, 10 points greater than the next-best team. Napoli also scored 74 goals and only conceded 36 goals.

Only Atalanta ended the season with more goals than Napoli, and only Juventus and Inter conceded fewer goals. With its finish, Napoli qualified for the Champions League for the fourth time in a row.

Napoli started last season in great form. The club won five of its first six games to jump to the top of the table. Juventus, however, overtook Napoli and lifted the Scudetto for the eighth straight year. This marked the fourth time in seven years that Napoli finished in second place behind the Bianconeri.

The biggest difference between Napoli and Juventus last season was squad depth. Napoli simply did not have enough talented players to balance the Serie A and Champions League schedules. Napoli had five players play in at least 45 games; Juventus as zero. While Juve’s top players got stronger as the year went on, Napoli’s players faded down the stretch with the heavy workload.

To close the gap with Juventus, Napoli was active this summer. It spent over $100 million on transfers to add depth and talent to the squad. More importantly, Napoli retained all its best players from the previous season.

After a successful summer transfer window, Napoli appears ready to end Juve’s eight year run as league champions. The Napoli squad is as deep as its ever been, and Juventus appears vulnerable. Here are five reasons why Napoli will win the Scudetto in the 2019-2020 season.
