Chelsea set to reward Tammy Abraham with new contract at Stamford Bridge
By Quinn Allen
According to Telegraph UK, the Blues are in the works of doubling Abraham’s current wages of 50,000 euros a week with a brand new long-term contract.
Chelsea is ready to pay their new number nine around 100,000 euros per week, even though he still has three years remaining on his current deal that he signed back in 2017. Abraham hasn’t spent much time actually with Chelsea though until this term, enjoying loan spells at Swansea City and most recently, Aston Villa last year where he bagged 25 goals and helped them get promoted to the Premier League this season.
Abraham had been struggling with adjusting to the pace of the Premier League early on in this campaign, but his two-goal performance in a 3-2 win over Norwich City last weekend showed that he is slowly growing and made Chelsea even more keen on rewarding him with a new deal at the club.
The 21-year old was one of the deadliest finishers in the Championship last season and showed last Saturday exactly why Frank Lampard was adamant about bringing the Englishman back to Stamford Bridge:

After missing a decisive penalty against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup, Abraham was slammed by pundits and it looked like Olivier Giroud would take over as the main central striker after an impressive performance against the Reds. But Lampard has kept faith in Abraham and although he is young and inexperienced, the former Aston Villa star offers tremendous pace that Giroud doesn’t have anymore.
There has been a lot of criticism surrounding Chelsea considering the fact they have a two-window transfer ban and after their 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United on opening day, the critics were in full force. But even though their defense looked shaky against Norwich City last weekend, Abraham and Mason Mount, two of the young stars who have been brought back to the club from loan spells, both looked impressive and showed a lot of promise in the final third.
Their back-line continues to be their biggest worry, but when Antonio Rudiger is back, the hope is that he can solidify the Chelsea defense.
Giving Abraham a new contract where he can earn double the amount of his current deal will only motivate him more to perform at the highest level possible. Abraham doesn’t seem too worried about a new contract right now though, voicing that he’s just happy to be finally getting a chance at first-team football with his boyhood club.
If last weekend is any indication of what Abraham is capable of, he could turn out to be a valuable player for Lampard’s side. I know they were facing a relatively weak team in Norwich City, but if Abraham can score these type of goals against better Premier League sides, he can become a very special player at Chelsea as their primary number nine.
Abraham will have the chance to bag some more goals this weekend as the Blues take on another newly-promoted side in Sheffield United.
