Manchester United must take serious action against this before it spirals even further out of control…
Paul Pogba is often seen as the scapegoat for Manchester United. This is to be expected since he is their record signing and seen as their poster boy. However, the treatment he receives is simply unjust, especially considering he is often their best player on the pitch.
Manchester United got off to an excellent start in the Premier League season, hammering Frank Lampard’s Chelsea by a scoreline of 4-0. Pogba was, unsurprisingly, the star-man in this performance as he provided assists for two of the goals.

However, things soon took a turn for the worse. Manchester United faced Wolves next and it was a frustrating night for them. They were on the receiving end of a Ruben Neves bullet and they were then awarded a penalty, which Pogba stepped up to and missed.
The French midfielder was then subject to racist abuse on social media, with a minority of fans voicing their anger in the completely wrong way. It set an unfair light on the majority of fans, who would simply not condemn such behaviour. Many teammates were quick to address their solidarity with Pogba during this time…
Racism is very much a societal issue and it must be addressed on a wider scale. However, it’s good to see that these well-known athletes are using their platforms to challenge Twitter and their competitors to knuckle down on racist accounts.
However, things have not gotten any better for Pogba. The feud has transcended from social media to the real world. According to Fox Sports, a sign outside Manchester United’s training ground has been spray-painted to read “Pogba out”.
No player deserves this amount of abuse. The best players in the world have all missed penalties, even some on a bigger stage, and were still adored by their respective fans. It’s about time that this treatment stopped, once and for all.
What do you think is the best way that Twitter and the footballing bodies can overcome this issue?
