Neymar was not the only Brazilian on Barcelona’s radar this summer
By Kian Long
Barcelona seem to be fans of the Brazilians…
It was a busy summer transfer window for all the big European clubs. Barcelona, in particular, were in the thick of it all. All summer long, they were linked with a move for their former player Neymar, however, they never managed to propose a sizeable enough bid to Paris Saint-Germain.
Rumours suggest that Neymar wasn’t the only Brazilian being eyed up by Ernesto Valverde this summer. According to the Daily Mail, Barcelona actually tried to sign Tottenham’s Lucas Moura late on in the window. However, they failed to match Tottenham’s price tag, which is rumoured to be £45m.

There are many reasons why this may be the case. The fact that the English transfer window now closes a few weeks in advance of the Spanish transfer window is certainly one of those.
Tottenham would have been more reluctant to sell any of their players to Barcelona since they would not have the right permissions to go out and chase a replacement for Moura.
Also, Daniel Levy is not exactly the best person to be in negotiations with. He is a stern businessman who wants his way or the highway. That said, if Barcelona felt they couldn’t justify the £45m, then there would be no way for them to lower that price.
Lucas Moura is an excellent player and he has learned a thing or two from Neymar. They play together in the Brazil national team and they used to be Paris Saint-Germain teammates. He is a versatile wide-man who can either play as a wide creator or a goal threat in the centre.
Moura put in a good shift last season, scoring ten goals in the Premier League for Tottenham. He seems to be at his best when it is really needed. For example, when Harry Kane is sidelined through injury. That said, you can understand why Mauricio Pochettino did not want to lose his ideal plan B.
Do you think Barcelona needed to sign Lucas Moura this summer?
