Nahitan Nández, Cagliari

Cagliari only finished three points clear of relegation last season. The club therefore needed a positive transfer window to ensure a more comfortable Serie A season.

Radja Nainggolan’s return was Cagliari’s most popular move, but another new midfielder will also make a big impact. Midfielder Nahitan Nández joined Cagliari from Boca Juniors for around $20 million.

After he moved to Boca Juniors two years ago, Nández quickly became one of the team’s best players. He featured primarily as a center midfielder, but he also played on the right side.

Nández plays an aggressive style that stems from his physical nature. He doesn’t have great size, but he is remarkably strong for a midfielder. He is also an exceptional tackler who doesn’t commit many fouls.

After he wins the ball in the midfield, Nández can play short passes to spearhead an attack. He will then join the attackers to help create goal scoring opportunities. As such, Nández is a true box-to-box midfielder.

Nández looks to put his talents to good use more as a defensive midfielder with Cagliari. He can play alongside Nainggolan to give Cagliari strength and physicality in the midfield.

Nández only played 12 games with Boca Juniors last season, but he will likely be a consistent starter at for Cagliari. At only 23 years old, Nández should grow immensely from his experiences in Serie A.

Expect Nández to be one of Cagilari’s most important players by the end of the season. With him in the fold, Cagilari should finish closer to the middle of the Serie A table.
