Barcelona are not the type to rest on their laurels…

Barcelona’s full attention is now back on the domestic season. After paddling through the transfer window and the dreaded international break, Ernesto Valverde and company will have their eyes on silverware. They will play Valencia tonight before travelling to Dortmund for their first fixture of the Champions League campaign.

It’s bound to be a fruitful season for them as it always is. However, one person who will be watching from a distance is Neymar. This seemed impossible just a few weeks ago since back then it felt inevitable he would be a Barcelona player again.

Barcelona tried their hardest to re-sign the Brazilian, however, they never managed to match up to Paris Saint-Germain’s asking price. Now he will remain at the Parc des Princes and it seems like there is no real winner in this conundrum.

That said, Barca could soon become the winners. They may have even dodged a bullet by not being able to sign Neymar, only time will tell. One thing is for sure, they will keep an open eye for other alternatives in the January transfer window.

One of those is his teammate, Kylian Mbappe. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona may switch their attention to the Frenchman after failing to secure a deal for Neymar this summer. The Spanish outlet is hit and miss, however, they are widely reputable when it comes to big headlines like this.

Mbappe is a different player to Neymar. While he has all the ability in the world to be skilful, his pace and athleticism are what steal the show. He has the footballing know-how to run into space and plenty of aplomb when in one-on-one situations with the goalkeeper. He is often compared to Thierry Henry for this style, who Barcelona fans will know plenty about.
