CM: Blaise Matuidi 6/10

Blaise Matudi was the same player he has always been in this match and unfortunately, that isn’t the player Juventus needs anymore. He gave another good effort on the defensive end, but he doesn’t created anything positive for the Juventus attack. He had one shot in this match that could have caught Fiorentina’s keeper off his line, but in the end it wasn’t actually all that dangerous. I like Matuidi and his talent level hasn’t fallen off a cliff like a certain other old Juventus midfielder, but it’s time for Juve to start giving either Adrien Rabiot or Rodrigo Bentancur this spot regularly.

CM: Miralem Pjanic 5.5/10

Miralem Pjanic was the 2nd of 3 Juventus players to leave this match because of an injury. He nearly made it to halftime before needing a substitute, but he wasn’t really able to offer much for Juve in the 43 minutes he played. Juventus doesn’t really have a replacement for Pjanic’s skillset in the midfield so they’ll be praying he can make it back in time for the October 6th match against Inter.

CM: Sami Khedira 4.5/10

Am I missing something here? I really just don’t understand why Juventus continues to cling to this idea that Sami Khedira should ever be in the starting lineup. He’s old, slow, and really not particularly good at anything anymore. Rodrigo Bentancur or Adrien Rabiot should be starting over him by now. Bentancur or Rabiot would give Juve a much better chance of being competitive against top competition than Khedira ever will. I saw a rumor the other day that Mario Mandzukic could be headed to LAFC. While Juve is negotiating with MLS teams, they might as well send Khedira to one too. At least in the MLS he might look like a useful player again.
