Miralem Pjanic 6/10

The midfield didn’t look the same without Pjanic in this match, but he also wasn’t able to make much of a difference once he entered the match. He wasn’t as accurate of a passers we’ve gotten used to this year and he didn’t really create much for Juve. He should get back to normal when he starts on Tuesday.

Sami Khedira 5.5/10

Why? For the love of god, why? Where are Emre Can and Adrien Rabiot? Juventus has much

More from Serie A

younger and more capable talent than Khedira available to make these appearances, but instead they insist upon bringing Khedira on so he can disappear for the entirety of his time on the field. At some point it will be time for Juve to give up on Khedira and I don’t know why that point hasn’t been reached yet.

Gonzalo Higuain Inc.

Normally, playing more than 20 minutes like Higuain did would mean a players gets a grade, but he spent about half of his time on the field dealing with bleeding from his nose because of a shot he took to the head shortly after he entered the match. He did make a nice pass to Cuadrado during his time in the match, but it didn’t have the same incredible end result as the pass he made against Atletico. Hopefully, his nose injury isn’t too serious because the Juve attack is better with him in it.

Manager: Maurizio Sarri 8/10

This Juventus squad is obviously a work in progress, but it was a positive sign that Maurizio Sarri finally started to make some changes in this match for reasons other than injury. Whether or not they were the correct changes is a different story, but he gets points for trying to get looks at different players than Sami Khedira. Why Sami Khedira was brought on as a sub, I have no idea. That substitution immediately cost Sarri points here. I think some of the changes he made were necessary for rotation, but I don’t think a lot of them worked out. Dybala still doesn’t fit in the squad and Bentancur definitely isn’t the replacement for Miralem Pjanic, but he made one change that I loved.

Aaron Ramsey is going to be massively important to the evolution of this squad and the fact that Sarri was able to get 60 productive minutes out of him should give Juve fans a lot of hope for the future. As far as the match itself goes, I’m sure Juve would have liked to win this match much more comfortable, but it was important for Juve to get 3 points after their last two results and they got those points. There are still some lineup and tactical issues Sarri needs to work out, but every little advancement this squad makes so early in the season should be viewed as a positive. Hopefully we see this growth continue on Tuesday.
