CM: Sami Khedira 5/10

This has to be the match where Maurizio Sarri realizes that there is absolutely no reason to continue starting Sami Khedira, right? He was once again mostly invisible throughout the match and his most memorable moment was him squandering a chance to score. Juventus should have either started Ramsey in this spot and started Bernardeschi in Ramsey’s place or just started either of Rodrigo Bentancur or Emre Can. I don’t know what it will take for Sami Khedira to finally be benched, but I hope whatever it is comes soon.

CM: Miralem Pjanic 8.5/10

Miralem Pjanic did it again. Much like in last season’s first match against Lazio, Juventus needed a goal and Pjanic stepped up with an absolute beauty. In this match, it came when Paulo Dybala shot a free kick into the wall and Pjanic blasted the rebound into the back of the net. Outside of that, it was business as usual for Pjanic. With nobody playing out wide for Juventus, they were especially dependent upon Pjanic to ignite the attack and he managed to direct the squad well from the midfield. This wasn’t quite the first look at Juve’s best midfield that I was hoping for, but the combination of Pjanic and Aaron Ramsey looks promising.

CM: Adrien Rabiot 5.5/10

Just one day after a report came out about Adrien Rabiot’s unhappiness with his playing time, he was given his first start of the year. Unfortunately, Rabiot didn’t really do much to convince Sarri he was wrong to wait so long to start him. Rabiot looked uncomfortable in the midfield and really failed to connect with the rest of the squad. This is to be expected from a player that hasn’t really had any exposure to his new teammates yet, but it still hurts his case for more playing time. As was true with de Ligt and Merih Demiral, I expect Rabiot to look better his next time out as he gets more comfortable with his new team and system.
