Tottenham need big changes to turn their season around. Here are five bold moves Mauricio Pochettino must make to boost Spurs.
There’s no question that Tottenham are in crisis after bowing out of the Carabao Cup at Colchcester United on Tuesday evening. The only important question for Spurs now is what Mauricio Pochettino and company can do to turn things around.
Savage, cold decisions marked the Argentine’s early tenure in North London. It’s time for Pochettino to get back to his ruthless roots. These five big changes must be made if Tottenham are going to right the ship and get back to their winning ways.
5. Change shape
When Pochettino first arrived at Tottenham he instituted an exciting brand of football. As time has gone on, Spurs have gotten more and more conservative. That tactic obviously isn’t working.
As such, Pochettino should shake things up by playing a different formation. Ideally, he’d choose a setup that would provide more of a platform for his attacking cadre of players to trouble the opposing goalkeeper. The ideal solution would be to transition Spurs to an attacking 4-3-3 formation.
The idea of Harry Kane playing as a striker, flanked by Lucas Moura and Heung-Min Son on the wings is enough to cause Premier League defenders some very vivid nightmares. It would squeeze the spots available to midfielders in the squad, but it’s time for Spurs to to tighten up their rotation there anyway.
Fans won’t be blown away if Tottenham do start out in a 4-3-3 against Southampton this weekend, but it would be big step forward for Pochettino. It’s time for Spurs to go back to the type of swash buckling football that their fans know and love.
