4. Institute a massive January sell off

Selling players on the fringes of the squad is never quite as easy as fans make out. However, Tottenham do have the opportunity to make some cash in January. The key will be for Pochettino and Daniel Levy to push a few squad players out the door.

Victor Wanyama absolutely has to go. He was clueless against Colchester and it doesn’t look like he will ever rediscover the form that made him so important for Tottenham two years ago. He might be able to resurrect his career elsewhere, but Spurs should only be preoccupied with getting a decent fee for his services.

Christian Eriksen could also be on the move when the winter window opens. The Daily Mail report that Spurs are willing to let him go for just £30 million on January. He may prefer to move on a free transfer, but that’s something Spurs should push hard to avoid.

Tottenham might even consider selling some veteran starters to freshen up the squad. Offloading someone like Hugo Lloris, Jan Vertonghen or Toby Alderweireld might send the club’s fan base into a frenzy, but it would also send a shocking message to the squad that no one is above reproach. For the record, any money produced from a January exodus should go right back into the squad during the same month.
