LB: Blaise Matuidi 6.5/10
To to the surprise of absolutely nobody, Blaise Matuidi isn’t Alex Sandro and it showed in this match. Matuidi didn’t really have much to offer in the attacking half in this match and didn’t really have much work to do on the defensive end. We won’t really get a good idea of what Matuidi is capable of at left back until he is tested by Leverkusen and Inter over the next week.
CB: Leonardo Bonucci 6.5/10
It’s really tough to make an impact as a Juve defender when you are playing against teams like SPAL, especially when you’re playing alongside Matthijs de Ligt. This set of circumstances really just left Leonardo Bonucci without much to do in the match. De Ligt covered most of the little responsibility that fell upon the defense. Bonucci did have a shaky moment where he gave the ball back to SPAL inside the Juve penalty area, but they were luckily able to defuse the situation. He’ll need to avoid mistakes like that over the next week as Juve’s schedule starts to get a lot tougher.
CB: Matthijs de Ligt 7/10
There wasn’t much work to do for Juve’s defense in this match, but that didn’t stop Matthijs de Ligt from dominating that end of the field. On the rare occasions where SPAL was able to get the ball into Juve’s half, de Ligt was able to stop them from creating anything at all. He continues to impress at Juventus and will have a big part to play against Leverkusen and Inter over the next week.
RB: Juan Cuadrado 7/10
Juan Cuadrado continues to surprise me this year. He was a liability at right back last year, but we have yet to see him have any trouble in his first two matches at the position this year. He provided some width to the Juve attack with his play on the right wing and made some dangerous passes in the match. So far, Cuadrado hasn’t given us any reason to worry about the fact that he is Juve’s only option at right back for the next few weeks.
