Jose Mourinho makes preliminary demands from Real Madrid
Jose Mourinho is being eyed by Real Madrid amid a lack of clarity over Zinedine Zidane’s long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The Merengues are on top of La Liga Santander, but that is primarily because of their rivals’ form not being as good as theirs more than them matching standards. For the first time in their history, the Whites have also failed to win their first two matches of the UEFA Champions League’s group stage.
Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with a move to Spain’s capital, but Jose Mourinho remains the favourite to make a return to Madrid should Zinedine Zidane’s contract be terminated. According to the Fox Sports, the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss is already in touch with Florentino Perez and has made an initial demand from the Los Blancos’ president.
Jose Mourinho does not see Karim Benzema as part of his plans if he makes a potential return to his former recruits and as a result, he has submitted a five-man shortlist to the club’s seniors of players who would be replacing the French striker. Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane, Red Bull Salzburg sensation Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain’s trio of Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and Mauro Icardi constitute Jose’s list.
Florentino Perez is most certainly going to overlook Edinson Cavani and Mauro Icardi given that the former is ageing and the latter is not as good as he was a year or two back. Harry Kane is obviously a great option, but the Englishman seems to be committed to Spurs while Erling Haaland has yet to prove himself consistently, though to his credit he has scored 15 times in 10 appearances this season across all competitions.
Kylian Mbappe is the player Real Madrid would most likely invest in. The World Cup winner is a lethal goal scorer- someone that the Merengues desperately require. However, PSG would ask their colleagues to break a transfer record if they are to sign Mbappe. On a supportive note, what Jose Mourinho does to Luka Jovic would be interesting to see as well because Zidane’s favouritism has hampered the Serbian’s chances.
Do you think Jose Mourinho would really axe a total striker like Karim Benzema?
