Juventus player ratings vs Inter Milan: Dybala and Higuain send Juve to top of table
By John Vaccaro
LB: Alex Sandro 7/10
Alex Sandro was once again surprisingly absent in the attacking half of the field, but he put in another solid defensive performance. I don’t really remember Danilo D’Ambrosio doing much of anything on Sandro’s wing and that likely played a large part in why Inter’s attack struggled in the match. I was surprised the game plan didn’t call for Sandro to push forward more to create some width against a back 3, but if he keeps playing well on the defensive end then I think Juve will be fine with sacrificing some of his attacking contribution.
CB: Leonardo Bonucci 7/10
I still haven’t forgiven Leonardo Bonucci for everything that went on over the last couple of years, but it’s impossible not to trust him on the defensive end with the way he has played this season. He continued to play at a high level against Inter on Sunday. There was one scary moment when he was dispossessed by Lautaro Martinez just outside the penalty area, but other than that he didn’t make a mistake throughout the match. Bonucci is a big reason why Juve finds themselves sitting atop the Serie A table in spite of Giorgio Chiellini‘s injury.
CB: Matthijs de Ligt 5/10
Another big Serie A match leads to another disastrous moment for Matthijs de Ligt. I really don’t know what he was thinking when he lunged toward a cross with his arm outstretched, but it led to Inter being given a penalty that allowed them to pull even with Juve. He also had a dicey moment with a poor pass at the back in this match. He had seemingly put the struggles of the Napoli match behind him leading up to the match, but for some reason he had a blunder that would have once again been the main talking point from this match if it weren’t for Higuain. He played much better after this incident and made life extremely difficult for Inter’s attack, but he really needs to avoid these types of mistakes in matches of this magnitude.
RB: Juan Cuadrado 6.5/10
This was an uncharacteristically reserved performance from Juan Cuadrado. He didn’t make many of his long runs forward to help the attack, but he did help out the defense. The fact that he was going head to head with former teammate, Kwadwo Asamoah, kept him occupied in his own half for a lot of the match. Asamoah was the most real threat Cuadrado has faced since moving to right back and he did pretty well with the new challenge.
