Dele Alli makes interesting new commitment to Tottenham
Both Tottenham and England need more from Dele Alli. It’s fair to say the talented midfielder has gotten the message from all parties.
Tottenham have endured a myriad of problems this season, but the ineffective play of Dele Alli has certainly contributed to Spurs’ slump. Fortunately for Mauricio Pochettino and company, their midfield talisman is prepared to make some big changes in his life to benefit his football career.
According to The Mirror, Dele has recently hired a nutritionist and made the decision to forego all commercial activities for the foreseeable future. It’s clear what the player’s intentions are. He wants to refocus his efforts on football and get back to his top form as a player.
It doesn’t appear that being left out of the latest England squad was a primary motivating factor for Dele’s recent decisions. He reportedly expected to be left at home by Gareth Southgate due to his recent fitness issues. A variety of muscle issues have plagued the English international over the past 12 months.
No matter what prompted Dele to make these life changes, they should pay massive dividends for Tottenham. Christian Eriksen‘s future with Spurs remains up in the air. If Pochettino can rely on Dele to serve as the club’s No. 10 for an extended period of time it could take a lot of pressure off the club to replace Eriksen in January.
Even if the No. 10 position is not where Dele ends up, Tottenham desperately need his attacking verve back on the pitch if they’re going to salvage anything from the current season. At his best, he is a player who can conjure a goal from absolutely nothing. Unfortunately for Spurs, they haven’t seen that player lately. When Dele is off his game, he frequently comes under criticism from fans and pundits alike for his propensity to give the ball away when his tricks aren’t working.
Tottenham fans are desperate for good news at the moment, and Dele’s decision to focus on football could be just the thing to lift their spirits. Keep a close eye on how he plays when the club returns from International Break. If he can regain the form that made him a Premier League star it will be a massive boost for Pochettino and company.
