Christian Eriksen isn’t doing Tottenham any good this season. That’s why Spurs should rush to accept Real Madrid’s latest offer for the talented Dane.

In a perfect world, Tottenham would love to sign a highly motivated Christian Eriksen to a long-term contract extension. Unfortunately for Spurs, their world is not perfect. As such, it’s time to accept the reality that Eriksen’s future lies with Real Madrid.

The only good news for the North London club is that Zinedine Zidane and company are anxious to seal a transfer in January. According to Marca, officials at Real Madrid are concerned about the possibility of Eriksen signing elsewhere if he’s permitted to hit the open market this summer. That’s why officials for the La Liga giants are still willing to offer Tottenham a substantial fee for his services when the winter window opens.

No, Daniel Levy isn’t going to get his rumoured asking price of £200 million, but it is possible he can squeeze something close to £30 million out of Real Madrid’s well-stocked transfer war chest. That would, at the very least, allow Spurs to try to purchase a young player capable of growing into Eriksen’s role in January.

The reality Mauricio Pochettino must face is that Eriksen isn’t providing anything significant for Tottenham this season. His form on the current campaign has been spotty at best. There are also real questions about how is attitude has influenced his teammates. It’s best for all involved if Eriksen gets the move away from Spurs he so desperately wants as soon as possible.

As long as Eriksen’s next club resides outside of the Premier League, it should be of no real consequence to Tottenham where he goes. Real Madrid represent a very attractive option. No rational fan can question the Spanish club’s ability to outspend Spurs in terms of wages. The idea of Tottenham losing high-end talent to Madrid isn’t new either. Eriksen would simply follow in the footsteps of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale. Any fan discontent about the move would be temporary at best.

It’s simply time for the Eriksen soap opera to end. If Real Madrid make a reasonable offer in January, Tottenham should accept it and move on with other, more pressing business. The Dane’s heads been turned and it’s time for Spurs to cash out.
