Karim Benzema is not one to stand around and be second best. Real Madrid should have known…
Real Madrid are off to a flying start in La Liga this season. They sit top heading into the weekend, with the hopes of maintaining their position. Although, they have been somewhat inconsistent. In the Champions League, they are yet to win a game and sit bottom of group A.
Zinedine Zidane will be thankful to be in such a position, especially since question marks were being raised around his future. The Frenchman will surely get Real Madrid up to scratch in the Champions League, I mean he is a specialist in the competition.
He had a busy summer transfer window, which now seems like a lifetime ago. He brought in Ferland Mendy, Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard to strengthen the first team. However, Jovic is failing to adapt to life in Madrid so far.

He has made only two appearances and is being outshone by Karin Benzema. Where Jovic is yet to score his first goal for the club, the Frenchman has tallied a total of six in his opening seven appearances.
Benzema has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world over the last few seasons. In fact, I would as far as to say he still doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. He often supplies the goods for Real Madrid, especially when they need him to most.
He ages at 31 years old, so it’s easy to see why Zidane was wary of him. Although, it’s fair to say that Benzema isn’t deteriorating with age. In fact, he is ageing like fine wine.
He is a potent goal scorer who is clever enough to get in the right positions at the right times. He has a good first touch on him and his ability to score a range of goals is worthy of applaud. He can score headers, volleys, long-range goals, short-range goals and many others.
So, I suppose the question which needs to be addressed is – Is there a future for Luka Jovic at the Santiago Bernabéu?
The short answer to that question is yes, of course. Benzema isn’t going to live forever and he has shown that he’s the right man to replace him. They are both similar players so Madrid would not need to adapt their attacking philosophy too much.
However, it will all come down to whether the striker is willing to sit on the bench occasionally for the next few seasons, whether he has the right mentality to learn from Benzema and whether he can make the most of his limited chances.
One thing’s for sure, it would be a shame to see Jovic give up on his Real Madrid dream so soon after signing for the club.
Do you think Luka Jovic has the right tools to make it at Real Madrid?
