While some think Solksjaer should get sacked, it’s clear that the United chiefs understand that turning this team around will be a process and they want the Norwegian around for it.

If we rewind to last season when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over at Old Trafford for Jose Mourinho, everyone was praising the former United player for the wonderful job he did, leading the Red Devils to numerous victories in a row.

But this season, it’s a whole different story. The club is in shambles, sitting 12th in the table, as they prepare to take on Liverpool on Sunday. After losing Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan at the end of the summer, United has failed to replace the void left by the two strikers; most notably Lukaku. Marcus Rashford has struggled this year to score while dealing with several injuries. Anthony Martial has been unhealthy, while youngster Mason Greenwood has looked exciting at times but he’s not ready to be a Premier League starter.

They spent loads of money to acquire defensive reinforcements in Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but the Red Devils failed to bring in any more attacking options. Solksjaer’s squad have scored just nine goals through eight Premier fixtures while conceding just eight. Their back-line hasn’t been the issue, it’s been the lack of excitement in the final third.

More from Manchester United

According to the Daily Mail, United plans to target two strikers, two midfielders, a center-back, and a left-back before the beginning of next season. With the January transfer window slowly creeping in, it may be tough to sign a lot of players that soon but the hope is the club can bring in at least one or two players at the beginning of the new year who can change their fortunes.

Solksjaer has shown the ability to lead this team to success as he did last year, including a comeback win in the second leg in Paris of the Champions League against PSG. If he didn’t endure that success last season, he probably would have been canned already. But Ed Woodward and co. saw what he’s capable of when having the right players in his side, so they’re being patient with the club legend, who was one of the most prolific goal-scorers in Red Devils history back in his day.

Lyon’s Moussa Dembele and Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic are currently United’s first choices for attacking options this January, with the latter more likely to come to Old Trafford in the new year after falling out of favor in Turin. Dembele isn’t going to be cheap and although he’s signed through 2023 with Lyon, the 23-year old would probably be more available in next summer’s transfer window considering he’s a vital part of the French side’s attack and they won’t want to lose him in the middle of their season.

Atletico Madrid’s midfielder Saul Niguez was garnering interest from Man United last year, while Leicester City starlet James Maddison is a top target for the Red Devils, possessing all the abilities to be a game-changer in the midfield.

Defensively, they haven’t pinpointed any possible players yet. But with lots of money available for turning around this squad, more and more targets will appear over the next few months for the Red Devils.

If Rashford can get healthy, he has the ability to be a primary number nine. The most goals the England international has bagged in one season is ten through 33 appearances, but his best form could still be ahead of him considering he’s just 21.

It’s going to take some time to revamp this Red Devils side, but hopefully, the rebuild can begin in the January transfer window. As key players return from injuries soon like Martial, Shaw, and Pogba, Solskjaer will pray that his squad can start to put up some better results and fight their way back into the top ten of the Premier League table.

The higher-ups in the club have the Norwegian’s back though and are fully invested in a full rebuild at Old Trafford.
