Juventus player ratings vs Genoa: Juve gifted 3 points by Genoa
By John Vaccaro
LB: Alex Sandro 4.5/10
Alex Sandro continues to disappoint for Juve this season. I have pointed out before that he has been essentially non-existent in Juve’s attacking half for most of the season, but has at least been a positive presence for the defense. In this match, there were no positives to be found. It was his awful pass that created the opportunity for Genoa to score their goal. He also continues failing to make an impact up front for Juve. That was particularly disappointing in this match as Juve got to play most of the second half with an extra man. Let’s hope this changes some time soon because Juve really needs players to step up in the attacking half right now.
CB: Leonardo Bonucci 7.5/10
As the old saying goes, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. That was the approach Leonardo Bonucci took in this match. Juve’s attack was struggling to get much going, so Bonucci went ahead and scored a header from a corner kick. He also regularly pushed forward to try to create openings for Juve, even lining up at striker at one point as Dybala and Ronaldo tried to work a cross into the box for him. He didn’t have much to do on the defensive end in this match, but he took advantage of that and tried to help elsewhere. Juve’s temporary captain continued to earn the honor on Wednesday.
CB: Daniele Rugani 6.5/10
I found Daniele Rugani’s inclusion in the starting lineup absolutely shocking, but he actually played decently in this match. He managed to hold his own when Genoa counterattacked and even managed to fend some of those attacks off himself. This could be the last time we see Rugani for a while, but the fact that he played well after not seeing the field for nearly 3 months is a positive sign if Juve needs to start him again for some reason.
RB: Juan Cuadrado 7/10
Juan Cuadrado was definitely the better of Juve’s two full backs in this match. While Sandro was making blunders and little impact, Cuadrado had his side of the field locked down and gave Juve somewhat of a creative outlet on the wing. He keeps playing well enough that Juve’s right back situation is going to get very interesting now that Mattia De Sciglio and Danilo are both back.
